Blogging, Crafting and Thrifting..

January has come and gone in a blur. I had great crafty plans for the month but it did not happen. The yucky sicky hit the house and a sick two year old and husband at the same time is awful. I managed to not get the tummy troubles Raylan had or the cold Ben had, but as I type this I have sinus headache and stuffy nose.

I wanted to get a jump on ornaments for this years swaps and Cotton Gin but it didn't happen. I did finish a skirt for Madalyn. I wish I had taken a pic. It was super cute with foxes.

The thing I did the most last month was thrift shopping and it was awesome. I have picked up around 20 new skirts and got a bag full of shirts for $5.00. I have been inspired by Kelly Rae Robert's wear your joy project. I love that I might not be creating art but I can be creative and expressed in the clothes that I wear. I have always loved skirts and cute dresses but before I lost weight I just felt frumpy and sad looking. So the new thinner me is loving wearing skirts and dresses. I also have become more confident within myself and I wear and do what makes me happy and worry less about what others may think. The really cool thing is have gotten many compliments  on my outfits while out in public and plenty of likes on my Instagram.

This month I have challenged myself to wear a skirt a day and try to make it a different skirt. Doesn't it take 21 days to form a habit? Maybe I will not want to wear jeans again. I was telling my mom about my skirt a day challenge and said, "I'm not wearing pants all month." This however did not sit well with my three year old nephew. He said, "What MooMoo you not wear pants?" So I explained what skirts were, but he still thought I was just going pantless.

I am still in PJ's right not like I as I have a headache and feel yucky  but if  I leave the house today I will put on a skirt and take a pic. Doing this and the wear your joy project really helps keep me out of a rut of comfy clothes since some days I just stay here and tend to the house.

This month I really need to kick into crafty gear and get a jump on swaps and preparing for CGD in October...sounds far off but it gets here quicker and quicker it seems every year.

Terrible at Blogging

Here it is January 3rd, 2014 and my last post was January 2, 2012 and in that post I talked about how I  wanted to be better and consistent at blogging. Ha can you say epic fail. Oh yeah another year and another attempt.

I have so many creative goals for this year. I did spend New Year's Day stitching and working on a piece for my studio. However the last two days have been spent cuddling with Raylan who has a stomach bug.

I also want to have a word for the year and when I started thinking about this the word  JOY kept popping up.  I do need to find more JOY and stop being so stressed. Then the word FOCUS comes up. I need to FOCUS on the goals, ideas and tasks I have and want to do. The word CONSISTENT is needed if I want to be successful at fulfilling the meaning of the other words. So the first year I decide to choose a word I come up with three!  So if I put the all together in would work out to be Consistent Focus will be Joy...yes I think that will be it for 2014.

Okay I have put it out there in the blogging world my intentions for 2014....let's see how well I do.

New Year 2012

I'm not really good at making New Years resolutions and I'm sure this year will be no different. However instead so resolutions I'm going to make changes in life. The biggest change in our life came December 22, 2011 at 5:53pm two became three as Ben and I welcomed our little boy, Raylan into the world, our lives and our hearts. Being a new mom, a wife, foster mom, and Aunt MooMoo to my niece and nephew means I'm a busy person however I want to my life this year to be simple, organized and productive. My number goal is to be a productive stay at home mom. I want to be one of those crafty moms that can stay at home and I want to be serious about my crafts and figure out a way to do what I love and earn money. Last year I also discovered hair feathers and did exceptionally well at the Cotton Ginning Days. I am hoping the trend hold out for this and I can have success at the upcoming festivals. That would make this momma very happy.
On my to do list for this year is to fix my studio completely. When we moved in May 2nd seventeen days later we found out we were pregnant. So the entire time I've lived here I've been pregnant...until now. There has been a lot of have wanted to do but being pregnant did not allow it. I am looking forward to organizing and setting up and decorating the studio and then diving in and creating . I did take the down time of not have the energy to create to fill pages and pages of ideas and lists that I want to accomplish. It's not the same as going in and making something but in kept the wheels in my head spinning with ideas.

It's almost been a month

It's been almost a month since my last post. So much for posting weekly. The Cotton Ginning Days were this past weekend and I was off today and will be tomorrow to recuperate. the big attraction at my booth were feather hair extensions. Wow what a hit they were. Saturday and Sunday I was on my feet from 11am until the festival closed. I'm hoping to strike while the iron is hot and be able to setup somewhere else soon.

I am now going to focus my attention on getting Raylan's nursery setup. He is moving and growing more everyday. I am finally beginning to look pregnant.

That's about all the exciting news I have to share.

Almost a month...

Changes...

It has been far too long since I have written anything on here and there has been many changes. i have said it before but I would love to really be a blogger. I guess with anything you have to just make the time and learn to be consistant.
We have bought a beautiful house in Kings Mountain and seventeen days later we found out we were pregnant. What a house warming gift. Good thing we had a spare bedroom. We moved in on May 2nd and I had thought perhaps I would miss the old house but I can honestly say I have not missed one thing.
We found out on Septmember 6th that our little "Beanie" was actually our little boy, Raylan Garland. I was a bit shocked we were having a boy I was sure it was going to be a girl. Never the less I am thrilled to have the little blessing that God has given us. Ben is over the moon with excitement. Since my last posting on here my sister, Lori has had a little boy, Maddox last January. The two boys will be a year apart which we all are excited they will have each other to play with and grow up together. Ben is already making plans for a club house and sand pile in the back yard. Notice I said sand pile apparently a sand box would not be good enough.
Here at the new house we have a free standing garage and Ben and I both are able to have our own separate studios. At this point neither one is super fancy or exactly finished rooms but they are sufficent for us to work in. Ben worked very hard to get me a workable space in the upstairs portion of the garage. I do not have sheetrock but I do have an insulation and air conditioned place to play in.
Our house in the back over looks a hay field and we have the pleasure of seeing wild life from the patio or the kitchen window. Just the other morning there were 40 wild turkeys in the field. I am really looking forward to fall here I know the field will be beautiful with fall colors. I am hoping to attract some deer and be able to get some photos.
On a crafty note I this year I have taken Christy Tomlinson's She Art Workshop and let me just say how much it was...I highly recommend it. She is offering part two starting in November and you can believe I have already signed up. I have really enjoyed working with mixed media and it something I will definitely pursue. Mixed media is so wonderful to me because you can incorporate so many different techniques and mediums into what you are creating. That is so freeing and limitless in what the end result will be.
As usual I will be participating in the Cotton Ginning Days this year in October and I am very excited even though I don't have much new items. Moving and the early stages of beginning pregnant really took away by crafty time and desires. I have been working on a couple of new things but as always that 3 day weekend is just as much about "me" time as it is about being part of a craft show.
It feels really good to sit here and look out my kitchen window and type away. Let's hope I can remember weekly if not daily or every few days how great it feels and I keep it up.
